Chair pose works the legs, glutes and the core while challenging balance and building lower body strength.

1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and arms by your sides.
2. Bend your knees and push your hips back as though you are sitting into a chair.
3. Raise your arms overhead, keeping your shoulders relaxed away from your ears.
4. Keep your chest lifted, gently engage your core muscles and look forward. Hold for 10-30 seconds.
5. Press through your feet to return to standing.

Exercise notes:

  • Reduce the depth of the pose if you feel discomfort in your knees.
  • Place your hands on your hips if you feel any discomfort in your shoulders.
  • Perform near a wall or chair for extra balance support if needed.
  • To make the exercise more challenging, hold the position for longer, bend your knees deeper, or gently pulse up and down.
