Queensland’s child and family health workforce has access to a new free e-learning package designed to strengthen knowledge and confidence in preventive health during the important first 5 years of a child’s life.
Developed through a partnership between Health and Wellbeing Queensland and Children’s Health Queensland, with funding through Putting Queensland Kids First, the Child and Family Health Workforce Training Package is available through Queensland’s Health Learning Library.
The 20-module package covers key areas including infant and early childhood feeding and nutrition, physical activity and screen time, growth assessment, and communication approaches that support behaviour change.
Co-designed by Queensland’s subject matter experts
Almost 40 child and family health professionals contributed to the co-design of the package, alongside subject matter experts from Children’s Health Queensland and The University of Queensland. The practical, evidence-based content is intended to support child health nurses and the broader paediatric workforce working with children and families to strengthen early intervention and preventive health conversations.
Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive Officer Dr Robyn Littlewood said the child and family health workforce plays an integral role in supporting children and families across Queensland.
‘Ensuring this workforce is well supported to provide best-practice preventive care is essential to promoting positive, long-term health outcomes,’ Dr Littlewood said.
‘This unique collaboration has resulted in a practical, evidence-based learning package designed to strengthen preventive health capability across child and family health and is relevant to allied health and anyone working with children and families.’
The package was launched at the Queensland Rural and Remote Child Health Nursing Symposium in Dalby on 21 August 2026.
The e-learning package is available to staff with a Queensland Health email address. For further information contact healthimpact@hw.qld.gov.au
