SportsBox – a borrow box of sports equipment for all

SportsBox is a smart and simple solution designed to get more people moving by providing free access to sports gear in local parks, recreation centres, courts and sporting fields. With lockers stocked with equipment for over 50 kinds of sports, from basketballs to bocce sets, it’s designed so anyone can borrow what they need, when they need it.

Each locker is tailored to the local area and community needs, with options for accessible, culturally relevant or gender-specific gear. It’s inclusive, sustainable and caters to everyone, regardless of their socio-economic conditions or physical abilities.

SportsBox was developed to break down the barriers to physical activity, especially cost and access. It’s great for councils, schools, community groups and sport organisations looking to boost the use of local facilities, support healthier lifestyles and bring people together through impromptu play. It’s already being rolled out across Australia, with more locations being added.

How it works:

  • The locker – A tough, solar-powered locker designed to live outdoors and house sports gear. It’s easy to install and built to support sustainability goals.
  • The app – Free to download, the app helps people find a nearby locker and unlock it by scanning the QR code.
  • Management system – A cloud-based system tracks usage trends like peak times and popular gear, helping partners respond to community needs.

Anyone can use SportsBox, just turn up, unlock, and play. There’s no cost and no booking needed.

Visit the SportsBox website or contact hello@sportsbox.au to get involved.
