The A Better Choice Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Healthcare Facilities aims to enhance the availability, accessibility and promotion of healthier food and drink options within Queensland Hospitals and Health Services (HHSs).
As public institutions focused on improving the health and wellbeing of the community, HHSs play a leadership role in supporting good nutrition for staff and visitors. By providing healthier food and drink options in their dining facilities and vending machines, HHSs are supporting their community to make healthier choices and sending an important message to the community about healthy living.
The A Better Choice Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Healthcare Facilities applies to all public health services and sets targets relating to the sale, provision, promotion, and advertising of food and beverages on-site. This strategy includes:
- Food outlets and coffee carts
- Vending machines
- Catering
- Fundraising and promotional activities.
The Health Service Directive—Healthier Food and Drinks at Healthcare Facilities supports the implementation of this Strategy, ensuring that healthier food and beverages are readily available, promoted, and advertised at healthcare facilities.
