Grow & Go Toolbox Helping Feed Under 5’s

The Grow & Go Toolbox is a website for anyone caring for children under 5 who is looking for free, expert verified information on healthy eating.

A team of expert dietitians read through thousands of webpages, flyers and more on how to encourage healthy eating in young children, toddlers and babies and carefully selected around 1,700 Australian nutrition resources, in 30+ languages.

The resources include information for:

  • Parents and families
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  • Multicultural families
  • Health professionals
  • Early childhood educators

The resources are categorised by audience, and topics include:

  • Breastfeeding & formula feeding
  • Introducing solids
  • Healthy eating and drinking
  • Healthy habits and mealtimes and much more.

The Grow & Go Toolbox aims to empower parents and care givers with evidence-based information, so that they can make healthy choices for their under 5’s.

It was developed in partnership with parents, health and education professionals. They told the creators it was hard to find trustworthy and up-to-date nutrition information. They wanted one place they could go, to find quality information, quickly and easily. Everything from how to help a picky eater to choosing a formula and creating easier mealtimes.

The Grow & Go Toolbox aims to alleviate this stress, by vetting and compiling nutrition resources into one website for easy access to support parents, families, education and health professionals.

The project was funded by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care through a Public Health and Chronic Disease grant. The project is being completed by researchers at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences at The University of Queensland and was published in 2023.
