Healthy Kids podcasts launched for best practice service delivery

As part of Health and Wellbeing Queensland’s commitment to improving the health of all Queensland children, a new Clinician’s Guide to Healthy Kids podcast series was launched today.

This podcast series aims to equip healthcare professionals with expert insights, empowering them to collaborate with children and their families to build healthy habits together. The podcast series explores a diverse range of topics including sleep, nutrition, physical activity, healthy growth, and disordered eating in children. Tailored for health professionals, this podcast series provides practical advice, striving to promote the overall health and wellbeing of children and their families.

Health and Wellbeing Queensland (HWQld) Chief Executive Dr Robyn Littlewood said the development of the Clinician’s Guide to Healthy Kids podcast series had been a priority for HWQld and is now part of the free online resources in HWQld’s Clinicians Hub

‘This informative and practical resource – the Clinician’s Guide to Healthy Kids podcast series – creates an opportunity for multidisciplinary health professionals to reflect on best practice service delivery,’ Dr Littlewood said.

‘Today’s launch of the series further supports our Generation Queensland (GenQ) vision for all Queensland children to experience better health outcomes than the generations before them.

‘We know that to achieve this commitment we must work together with health professionals who support Queensland children to have the best chance to lead a healthier life, no matter who they are or where they live.’

Since HWQld launched the Clinicians Hub in 2020, it has expanded the availability of resources, tools and practical initiatives for multidisciplinary health professionals to support best practice service delivery, especially in the identification, prevention and management of childhood obesity.

Of the many initiatives that HWQld is delivering to advance GenQ, the podcast series supports a more targeted, cohesive and responsive approach to service delivery relating to healthy growth and healthy diets, disordered eating in higher-weight children, improving sleep and increasing physical activity.

The podcast series was developed to support clinicians to embed routine growth assessments and healthy behaviour discussions into their daily consults, regardless of a child’s weight. In this way, these discussions stay health-focussed and reduce potential weight bias that can come into conversations if they only occur when concerns with weight arise. In this way, the podcast series will help to;

  • Promote healthy growth and healthy eating
  • Improve physical activity for overall wellbeing
  • Address matters related to weight stigma
  • Emphasise the importance of quality, adequate sleep.

The podcast series was developed in response to consumer interviews and surveys of health professionals to identify the resources they were seeking to support best practice delivery.

The Clinician’s Guide to Healthy Kids podcast series is available at hw.qld.gov.au/clinicians-podcast and wherever you get your podcasts from.
