Boost your Healthy
Health and Wellbeing Queensland mobilised an alliance of 31 organisations, each of whom value the physical and mental health of Queenslanders, to deliver the Boost your Healthy initiative.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when people were asked to stay at home to help keep themselves and their communities safe, Health and Wellbeing Queensland recognised the impact that working and learning from home could have on the physical and mental wellbeing of Queenslanders.
In response, we launched Boost your Healthy, a statewide program that encouraged Queenslanders to boost their activity, healthy eating and wellbeing. Delivered through an online platform, Boost your Healthy featured creative, practical and evidence-based content developed by an alliance of 31 organisations – the first of its kind in the area of health promotion in Queensland.
Campaign overview
In May 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic was being felt across Queensland and people’s lives became disrupted, it was easy to see how people would find it hard to prioritise their physical health, leading to deeper impacts on their nutrition and ability to cope with stress and feelings of uncertainty. These impacts would not only affect an individual, but their families and communities as well.
Health and Wellbeing Queensland could see a gap in the public health information available for Queenslanders and developed Boost your Healthy. The online resource hub provided practical, innovative and accessible ideas and information, offering ways in which Queenslanders could ‘boost their healthy’ across physical activity and nutrition during the uncertain and unprecedented times.
The 3 pillars of success
Boost your activity
We partnered with the Department of Housing and Public Works through Sport and Recreation and others to share information on how to move more at home. The program had an immediate impact with more than 5,500 Queenslanders, from over 300 postcodes, participating in the Billion Steps Challenge, logging over one billion steps in just 32 days.
Boost your healthy eating
By joining forces with a range of trusted organisations to provide information, support, recipes and other tips we helped Queenslanders to make eating well at home easy, fun and tasty. As part of this activity, more than 850 entries were received for the Queensland Country Women’s Association’s Cook at Home Challenge, with over 9,000 unique page views of the associated website.
Boost your wellbeing
With the support of the Queensland Council of Social Service and other partners, we worked to provide a suite of tools, support and information on establishing healthy routines, getting enough sleep and tips for workers on the frontline or working from home. The impact of this was seen through the more than 1,000 unique page views of the Wellbeing Series, with an average time on page of over 6.5 minutes, along with regular engagement through social media with our wellbeing blog articles.
Between May 2020 – May 2021, Boost your Healthy attracted more than 24,000 users from across Queensland. This was an outstanding achievement for a program of work delivered online and predominantly promoted through social media.
Partners and collaborators
Health and Wellbeing Queensland mobilised an alliance of 31 organisations, each of whom value the physical and mental health of Queenslanders, to deliver the Boost your Healthy initiative. This comprised of over 1,300 dietitians, exercise physiologists, nurses, doctors and other health professionals, as well as an army of volunteers.
Collectively, they delivered services in over 300 locations, from the far north Cape and Torres to central Mackay and Bundaberg, outback Roma, and South East Queensland, including First Nations communities. This was the first time an alliance such as this had been developed in the area of health promotion in Queensland.
