Helena De Bortoli

I’m Helena, I am the regional coordinator for the North Queensland! I am a community nutritionist and have a background in health promotion, previously having worked in Cape York communities piloting the rheumatic fever strategy and have also been involved in QCWA Country Kitchens on designing a nutrition project as part of the Healthier.Happier.Campaign.
My love for health promotion specifically nutrition transpired when I was quite young. One of the most influential highlights of my childhood was going to my nonna and nonno’s house in El Arish and staying with them on their property. They had a huge fruit and veggie garden and well that just felt like a wonderland! As soon as I would wake up *every* morning, I’d go beg nonno to let me into the chicken coop to collect any eggs. Most importantly I will never forget nonnas cooking and just loved getting my hands dirty in harvesting produce and helping her prepare and cook meals.
I absolutely love creating a positive food culture within my communities to expose our littlies to where food comes from and how to use food and cook delicious and nutritious meals! Seeing the next generation getting excited about agriculture, food and nutrition is one of the reasons why I love what I do every day.
