Health and Wellbeing Queensland was delighted to join Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland and members of the community on Friday 12 August, for the third Governor’s Community Walk in celebration of International Youth Day, as part of Queensland Walks Month.

The community walks were developed by the Office of the Governor and HWQld, as part of Her Excellency’s patronage of our organisation, and her Excellency’s priority as Governor to encourage a healthy and active Queensland.

This month’s walk was particularly special as we celebrated young Queenslanders, and Queensland Walks Month which aims to improve the walkability of Queensland. HWQld Chief Executive Dr Robyn Littlewood spoke with the group about the many benefits of walking, including improving fitness levels, energy, and wellbeing, along with opportunities for social connectedness and enjoying nature.

The group of around 60 people included local school students, community members, representatives from partner programs Deadly Choices, 10,000 Steps, Queensland Walks, the Heart Foundation, and the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops, and staff from both HWQld and the Office of the Governor.

The next Community Bushland Walks will take place on Thursday 8 September 2022, to acknowledge RU OK Day. For more information, visit the Queensland Government House website.
