Rural Yoga brings connection, movement and mindfulness to regional Queensland

Health and Wellbeing Queensland is proud to partner with The Yoga Partnership to deliver the Rural Yoga Roadshow, an initiative bringing inclusive and accessible yoga to communities across the state.
The most recent roadshow, held during October, reached 8 towns including Maryborough, Gin Gin, Childers, Bundaberg, South Kolan, Gympie and Murgon. Over 5 days, 5 yoga teachers ran 31 classes with more than 400 participants aged from 9 months to 91, with classes run in childcare centres, schools, aged care facilities, disability services, veterans’ groups, women’s shelters, rehabilitation centres and community groups.

Each class was adapted to suit a wide range of abilities, from chair yoga and gentle movement sessions to general and active classes. One therapy dog even joined in! The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many communities eager for more regular yoga sessions.
Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive Dr Robyn Littlewood said that through the partnership, Health and Wellbeing Queensland was helping to make yoga, and its health benefits, accessible to all Queenslanders, regardless of where they live or their physical ability.
‘The Rural Yoga Roadshow is a wonderful opportunity for Queenslanders of all ages and abilities to move and make connections,’ Dr Littlewood said.
‘We are proud to continue our support of the roadshow, which ensures equity for people living in rural Queensland and beyond.’
By supporting the Rural Yoga Roadshow, Health and Wellbeing Queensland is helping bridge the gap between urban and regional health opportunities, bringing prevention, connection and wellbeing to every corner of the state. This initiative is part of a broader partnership between The Yoga Partnership and Health and Wellbeing Queensland, offering free weekly online yoga classes to regional and remote communities, helping all Queenslanders enjoy the physical and mental benefits of yoga.
