Help us make our mark on the 2032 Olympic Games

As the 2032 Games approaches, the focus is not only on the event itself, but on the legacy it will leave – for Brisbane and across Queensland.

Health and Wellbeing Queensland is proud to be part of Brisbane City Council’s Brisbane: Making Our Mark initiative, which has invited residents and organisations to put forward ideas that will shape the city’s future.

Our idea, ‘Get Your Active On’, uses the momentum of the Games as a catalyst to encourage residents to discover what being physically active means to them, and find an activity that makes them happy. ‘Get Your Active On’ is about finding everyday moments to move, in ways that feel enjoyable, achievable and realistic for different lives, abilities and preferences.

Rather than prescribing a single way to be active, our legacy idea champions physical activity as a personal journey. It encourages movement at every opportunity throughout the day, from walking or riding to local destinations, to exploring council-run programs.

At the heart of the idea is a simple, evidence-based message: Aim for at least 30 minutes of movement daily, in line with national physical activity guidelines. Those minutes don’t need to happen all at once, they can be built into daily routines, social time and moments that already bring joy.

This matters because too many Queenslanders are not moving enough. The Queensland Chief Health Officer’s Report shows that in 2024, 44.5% of adults and 50% of children and young people were insufficiently active. Get Your Active On aims to help change this by empowering residents to reimagine movement, build long-term healthy habits and strengthen community connection.
