How to sauté onions

Learning how to sauté onions is a great way to build flavour and bring your cooking to life. With just a bit of oil, heat and some gentle stirring, you’ll have golden, caramelised onions that add depth to everything from pastas to curries.
Method
Step 1
Sauté is a dry heat cooking method.
Step 2
Heat your pan: start on a medium to high heat.
Step 3
Add 1 tbsp of oil to the pan and move the pan around to evenly spread the oil.

Step 4
Put your chopped onion on the pan.

Step 5
Keep the onion moving: stirring and flipping until the onion is evenly cooked and golden brown.

Step 6
The difference between sautéing and stir-frying is that sautéing allows vegetables to brown and give them more flavour.
