Why choose healthier options when engaging in sport or active recreation?

Healthy food makes us feel great. When we put the right fuel into our bodies, it helps us stay active for longer periods, improves focus and concentration, and boosts our ability to perform. Getting the most out of enjoying sport and active recreation extends beyond what happens on the ground, in the pool or on the track.

A Better Choice is an initiative by Health and Wellbeing Queensland that gives sport and recreation clubs, sporting venues and stadiums the tips and tools to make it easier to provide better food and drink options, regardless of the activity, location or size.

Putting the right fuel in your body, will help you be your best on and off the court, track or field. Check out Queensland Firebirds’ top tips for fuelling your body before, during and after exercise in the video below.

Use the support resources provided to fuel your exercise and get the most out of your experience.

If you are passionate about the benefits of healthy eating, talk with other players, club committees, parents and canteen operators to spread the word. Encourage your local club or sporting venue to get on board and offer and promote healthier food and drink options to its members and visitors.

By working together, we can create a culture of healthy eating and make it easier for everyone to make better choices.
