Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Podsquad App
Health and Wellbeing Queensland (HWQld) is committed to ensuring that Podsquad is accessible for all users, including those with disabilities or diverse accessibility needs. By developing Podsquad with accessibility in mind, Health and Wellbeing Queensland aims to provide an inclusive program where children and families of all abilities can engage with the app’s content and activities.
Perceived accessibility
HWQld aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Standards (WCAG 2.1) to the best of our ability, where they apply to mobile applications. We have focused on the following guidelines:
a. Perceivable: HWQld provides content that can be perceived in multiple ways, including text alternatives for non-text content, audio descriptions, and adjustable font sizes.
b. Operable: Podsquad is designed to be operable for all users, including those who navigate using assistive technologies. HWQld ensures logical and consistent navigation, clear focus indicators, and keyboard accessibility.
c. Understandable: HWQld presents content and functionality in a clear and understandable manner, avoiding jargon or complex language whenever possible. We provide clear instructions and feedback to users.
d. Robust: HWQld strives to develop and maintain a robust app that can be interpreted by a wide range of devices, including assistive technologies.
Device-based accessibility features
The Podsquad app utilises the accessibility features built into your device’s operating system, such as:
a. Screen Readers: The app is compatible with screen readers, enabling users with visual impairments to access content through text-to-speech technology.
b. Magnification and Zoom: Users can utilise the magnification and zoom features provided by their device’s accessibility settings to enlarge content and improve visibility.
c. Voice Control: The app supports voice control features, allowing users to navigate and interact with the app using voice commands.
d. Colour Contrast: HWQld has taken care to ensure sufficient color contrast within the app to aid users with visual impairments.
Co-design and user testing
To ensure HWQld meets the diverse needs of users, including those with disabilities, it actively engages families with different accessibility needs during the development and testing phases of the Podsquad app. By including diverse perspectives and incorporating user feedback, we continuously improve the app’s accessibility.
Ongoing commitment
HWQld is committed to maintaining and improving the accessibility of the App as technology evolves and accessibility standards advance. HWQld values user feedback and encourage users to provide input on any accessibility issues they may encounter while using the app.
