New partnership to support a healthier, more active Gold Coast

Health and Wellbeing Queensland and the City of Gold Coast have joined forces to improve the health and wellbeing of local communities, announcing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 31 July 2025 at the Go Gold Coast Month Industry Breakfast.

The new agreement sets the stage for long-term collaboration focused on helping Gold Coast residents lead healthier, more active lives. By working together, the two organisations aim to create real impact through local programs, healthier environments, and better access to opportunities for physical activity and good nutrition.

Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive Dr Robyn Littlewood said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to tackling preventable chronic disease.

“We know that strong partnerships create stronger outcomes. This collaboration recognises the City of Gold Coast’s leadership in promoting active lifestyles and puts community wellbeing at the centre of everything we do,” Dr Robyn Littlewood said.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate echoed that message, saying: “This MOU demonstrates our commitment to creating healthier, more connected communities. “Through partnering with Health and Wellbeing Queensland, we’re strengthening our efforts to get more people more active, more often.  Our shared legacy will increase wellbeing right across the Gold Coast.”

The partnership will focus on co-designing community initiatives, aligning strategies, and sharing data to guide targeted action. It supports a shared goal of creating thriving, resilient communities where everyone has the chance to live well.

Whether it’s walking more, playing sport, eating well or staying connected, this partnership is about making healthy choices easier and more accessible for all Gold Coast residents.

It’s a reminder that when state and local organisations work together, healthier futures become possible – not just for today, but for generations to come.
