Healthy is Happening – Join the movement empowering Queenslanders to thrive!

Queensland, it’s time to rise and shine! Health and Wellbeing Queensland has launched Healthy is Happening, a bold, vibrant and statewide wellbeing movement, live until March 2026.
We’re inviting Queenslanders from all over the state to embrace healthier eating, joyful movement, and everyday wellbeing – helping us all reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease while feeling stronger, happier and more empowered in our bodies.
Real people. Real change. Real inspiration.
Healthy is Happening features real stories, communities and experiences already happening across the state. It shines a light on Queenslanders from all walks of life who are making healthy happen in small, regular, meaningful ways.
Healthy choices don’t need to involve expensive food or gym memberships. They’re about making small changes – even 1 thing a week – to improve your health… and encouraging others to do the same.

Backed by research. Inspired by you.
To inform the Healthy is Happening campaign, we conducted research to discover the needs, challenges and lived experiences of Queenslanders. The campaign website contains resources such as healthy recipes, physical activity ideas and support to help you take small steps towards a healthier life.
Top tips
Here’s some quick, easy, free ways to improve your health and wellbeing today:
- Small steps count! Start with one change – a healthy food swap, an extra 15-minute walk, or an earlier bedtime.
- Increase your fruit and veg. Fresh, frozen, tinned – it’s all good! If you can’t manage the recommended 5 servings of vegetables a day, try adding one extra serve to a meal.
- Breathe! We do it 24 hours a day but rarely think about it. Closing your eyes and taking 5 slow breaths a couple of times a day can relax you and clear your mind. Thinking about something you’re grateful for can improve your mood too!
- Swap alcoholic or sugary drinks for water. Decrease your sugar and increase the hydration your body needs in one step!
- Go to bed 15-minutes earlier. Many of us find it hard to get the sleep we need. Bumping up your bedtime slightly can result in better sleep – and more energy – each week.
- Try exercise snacking. Adding a few extra minutes of physical activity to your day can make a big difference. Add in a quick stretch, walk, dance, or other form of movement into your day.

Spread the movement – let’s get healthy happening together
This is your moment to get involved and help spread the word. Share the Healthy is Happening campaign and website with friends, family or community networks. Encourage the ones you care about to make healthier choices. Wherever you are across the state, your voice can help spark real change.
