Health and Wellbeing Queensland, Podsquad App
Health and Wellbeing Queensland (HWQld) is committed to ensuring that Podsquad is accessible for all users, including children and families with diverse needs and abilities. By developing Podsquad with accessibility in mind, HWQld aims to provide an inclusive program where children and families of all abilities can engage with the app’s content and activities.
Perceived accessibility
HWQld aims to apply and meet the relevant Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 principles to the best of our ability, where they apply to mobile applications. We have focused on the following guidelines:
- Perceivable: HWQld provides content that can be perceived in multiple ways, including text alternatives for non-text content, visual presentation, audio descriptions, colour contrast and adjustable font sizes.
- Operable: Podsquad is designed to be operable for all users, including those who use compatible assistive technologies. HWQld ensures logical and consistent navigation, clear focus indicators, and keyboard accessibility.
- Understandable: HWQld presents content and functionality in a clear and understandable manner, avoiding jargon or complex language whenever possible. We provide clear instructions and feedback to users.
- Robust: HWQld strives to develop and maintain a robust app that can be interpreted by a wide range of devices, including assistive technologies.
Device-based accessibility features
The Podsquad app utilises the accessibility features built into your device’s operating system, such as:
- Screen readers: The app is compatible with screen readers, enabling users with visual impairments to access content through text-to-speech technology.
- Device magnification and zoom: Users can utilise the magnification and zoom features provided by their device’s accessibility settings to enlarge content and improve visibility.
- Voice control: The app supports voice control features, allowing users to navigate and interact with the app using voice commands.
- Colour contrast: HWQld has taken care to ensure sufficient color contrast within the app to aid users with visual impairments.
- Text and display adjustments: Users can utilise compatible text and display settings available on their device, such as adjusting text size, bold text and other display preferences, to support readability and visibility when using the app.
Co-design and user testing
Co-design and user testing have been central to the development and ongoing improvement of Podsquad. HWQld engages children and families with diverse needs, abilities and experiences to help identify barriers, understand how users interact with the app and inform ongoing improvements.
Feedback from users is considered alongside evidence, accessibility guidance and technical requirements as Podsquad continues to evolve.
Ongoing commitment
HWQld is committed to maintaining and improving the accessibility of the app as technology evolves and accessibility standards advance.
While we aim to make Podsquad as accessible as possible, some content or functionality may not yet be fully accessible to all users. We will continue to identify and address accessibility barriers as part of the ongoing development and improvement of the app.
HWQld values user feedback and encourages users to provide input on any accessibility issues they may encounter while using the app.
